Albanese met Ahmed at St George Hospital in Sydney, where he is receiving treatment for injuries sustained while confronting and disarming the attacker. The Prime Minister praised Ahmed’s bravery, calling his actions instrumental in saving countless lives.

In a post shared on his official X account @AlboMP, Albanese described Ahmed as a true Australian hero.
“Ahmed, you are an Australian hero. You ran toward danger and disarmed a terrorist,” Albanese wrote on Tuesday (December 16).
Speaking on behalf of the Australian government and its people, Albanese expressed deep gratitude for Ahmed’s courage, noting that his actions helped prevent an even greater loss of life.

The mass shooting occurred during the first night of Hanukkah celebrations at Bondi Beach, where hundreds had gathered. The attack left 16 people dead, including a child, while approximately 40 others remain hospitalized, according to international media reports.
Victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old, making the incident one of the deadliest gun attacks in Australia’s recent history.
Ahmed Al Ahmed’s actions have since drawn widespread international attention, with many hailing him as a symbol of civilian courage in the face of terror.
